  • hand sth. down → pass sth. from older people to younger one. → 代代相传，长辈传给晚辈
The recipe was handed down from an ancestor of the family

动词不定式做表语时，若前面出现了实义动词do,则常去掉to

All I have to do is dream.（不是to dream）
The best thing you can do now is write her a letter.（不是to write）
The only thing to do was ask them ...（不是to ask）
反例：All I wanted was to help him.（前边没有实义动词do，后面不能去to）
